Adriana Hölszky
Adriana Hölszky (born 30 June 1953) is a Romanian-born German composer, pianist and teacher. She grew up in Bucharest, studied piano as a child, and began composing in 1972. She moved to Germany in 1976 and studied in Stuttgart from 1977 to 1980. While studying, she played piano in Trio Lipatti with her twin sister Monika Hölszky-Wiedemann and a cellist. She attended the International Mozarteum Summer Academy (1977–1978) and regularly participated in the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music (1978–1984). In 1980 she started teaching at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, and in 1983 received a grant from the Arts Foundation of Baden-Württemberg. In 1986 she won first prize at the Darmstadt Composers’ Forum. In 1987 she received a scholarship from Lower Saxony’s Ministry of Culture. In 1992 she did composition seminars in Tokyo and Kyoto and at IRCAM in Paris. Her international reputation grew with concerts in Athens, Thessaloniki and Boston in 1993. She was a professor of composition at Rostock University of Music and Theatre from 1997 to 2000, and since 2000 she has been a professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Since 2002 she has been a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin.
