Gardner Speirs

Gardner Speirs, full name Walter Gardner Speirs, was born on 14 April 63 in Airdrie, Scotland. He is a Scottish football manager and former player who played as a midfielder.

During his playing career, Speirs spent most of his time with St Mirren from 1980 to 1989, with short loan spells at Kilmarnock and Dunfermline. He also played for Hartlepool United, Airdrieonians, Bathgate Thistle and East Stirlingshire.

After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching and management. He was manager of Clyde from 1996 to 1998. He later joined Aberdeen’s coaching staff and served briefly as caretaker manager in December 2002. He was caretaker manager of Ross County in 2005–06. He became assistant manager at Partick Thistle in May 2007. In 2008 he became manager of Queen’s Park, a role he held until 2013 when he left the club.

Speirs then worked in other roles, including a stint with the Rangers Academy as a youth coach in March 2015, and as assistant manager at East Kilbride starting in August 2015 (leaving in March 2016).

Back at Queen’s Park, he served as Head of Youth Development for several years and was named caretaker manager on 31 December 2021 after Laurie Ellis left.
