Ralph W. Sallee
Ralph William Sallee (November 26, 1927 – February 9, 2022) was an American meteorologist and a commander in the U.S. Navy. He was born in Arkansas and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany during the Korean War. He later served in Hawaii, Guam, Port Hueneme, California, and at the U.S. Naval Station Sangley Point near Manila (1964–1966). On September 11, 1967, he became Officer-in-Charge of Det. Charlie, Antarctic Support Activities. For his meteorological work during Operation Deep Freeze, the Sallee Snowfield in Antarctica was named in his honor by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names. He retired from the Navy in 1975 and died on February 9, 2022.
