From Hare to Heir

From Hare to Heir is a 1960 Warner Bros. cartoon directed by Friz Freleng and starring Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. In Bedlam Manor, Yosemite Sam, Duke of Yosemite, is broke after his uncle, the King, stops his allowance because Sam keeps losing his temper. Sam chases after the books, trying to balance them, when Bugs Bunny arrives with a deal: one million pounds if Sam can stay calm all the time. If Sam loses his temper, Bugs takes money away.

Bugs acts like an annoying guest, testing Sam with tricks and noise. At first Sam tries to stay cool, but Bugs’ antics push him over the edge. Every temper flare costs money, and Sam keeps losing more of the reward. He even goes outside to cool down, but Bugs keeps disturbing him with loud piano and demands.

Desperate, Sam plans to kill Bugs and make it look like an accident, but his plan backfires. In the end, Bugs reveals that Sam has blown the entire reward, leaving Sam to face his own folly.

The cartoon appeared in the 1983 film Daffy Duck's Movie: Fantastic Island as Sam’s wish. It’s available on the Bugs Bunny: Hare Extraordinaire DVD (uncensored but cropped to widescreen) and was remastered in 2020 for the Bugs Bunny 80th Anniversary Collection Blu-Ray in full screen.
