Friedrich von Berchtold
Count Friedrich Carl Eugen Vsemir von Berchtold, baron von Ungarschitz (Bedřich Karel Eugen Všemír Berchtold hrabě z Uherčic) was a German-speaking Bohemian doctor and botanist who lived from 25 October 1781 to 3 April 1876. He was born in Stráž nad Nežárkou (then part of the Austrian Empire) and died in Buchlovice, Moravia (now in the Czech Republic).
He finished medical school in 1804 and worked as a physician, while also studying plants and natural history. Berchtold traveled across Europe, the Middle East, and Brazil.
He collaborated with his brothers Carl Borivoj Presl and Jan Svatopluk Presl on many studies, including the important work O Přirozenosti Rostlin (On the Nature of Plants). He supported the Czech national revival and helped establish the Prague National Museum. The plant genus Berchtoldia was named in his honor.
