Fort Process
Fort Process is a multi-disciplinary sonic arts festival held at Newhaven Fort in Newhaven, East Sussex, UK. Produced by Lost Property, the event happens inside the 19th-century fort and its tunnels, featuring site-specific art installations and performances that respond to the building and its spaces. The festival focuses on sound art, experimental music, free improvisation, and site-specific works.
The idea started in 2012 when Alastair Kemp of Eleusinian Press proposed the concept to Brighton-based promoters after East Sussex County Council announced Newhaven Fort would become privately run. A group of promoters formed Lost Property to organize the festival.
The first Fort Process edition took place in September 2014, with editions in 2016 and 2018. The most recent edition was on August 3, 2018. Over its editions, the festival has hosted many artists, including Sarah Angliss, John Chantler, Evan Parker, Tetsuya Umeda, Zimoun, Seijiro Murayama, Kyoka, Gabey Tjon a Tham, and others.
Fort Process has received positive attention from critics such as The Wire, The Quietus, and Freq.
