Florence is a neighborhood in the South Los Angeles area of Los Angeles, California. It covers about 2.8 square miles and has around 46,000 residents. It borders South Park to the north, Central-Alameda to the northeast, Florence-Firestone to the east, Green Meadows and Broadway-Manchester to the south and southeast, and Vermont Knolls and Vermont-Slauson to the west. The northern boundary is East Slauson Avenue, the eastern boundary Central Avenue, the southern boundary Manchester Avenue, and the western boundary Interstate 110.

In 2000, about 43,800 people lived in Florence, a very high population density. By 2008, the population was estimated at about 46,600. The area has a very young population, with a median age around 23 and many residents under 34. There are 2,441 single-parent families, about 28% of households, which is high for the city and county.

Ethnically, Florence is about 70% Latino and 28% Black, with small shares of White, Asian, and other groups. Roughly 41% of residents were born outside the United States, with Mexico and El Salvador being common birthplaces.

The neighborhood’s median household income is about $29,447 (in 2008 dollars), and many households earn $20,000 or less. The average household size is about 3.8 people. Renters make up about 65% of housing, while homeowners account for the rest.

Education levels show that only about 2.8% of residents have a four-year college degree, and a relatively large share of adults aged 25 and older do not have a high school diploma.
