Members of the 1999 National Constituent Assembly of Venezuela

In 1999, Venezuela elected 131 representatives to form the National Constituent Assembly. Their job was to draft a new constitution for the country. The members came from many regions and political groups, reflecting the nation’s diversity. The assembly met during 1999 and 2000 and produced the 1999 Constitution, which voters approved in a referendum. After the constitution was adopted, the assembly completed its work and dissolved.
