António Carvalho (footballer)
António José Pereira de Carvalho (10 December 1960 – 18 November 2023) was a Portuguese footballer and manager. He played mainly as a midfielder or left-back. Born in Guimarães, he began at Vitória Guimarães and spent his career with several Portuguese clubs, including Vitória Guimarães (two spells), Sanjoanense, Salgueiros, Portimonense, Paços Ferreira, Moreirense and Ronfe. In total, he made 332 league appearances and scored 16 goals. Internationally, he played for Portugal at U16 (5 caps) and U23 (5 caps), and earned two full caps in 1987.
After retiring as a player, Carvalho became a coach. He worked with Vitória Guimarães' under-19 team (2001–2004) and later managed or assisted at multiple clubs in Portugal, such as Dragões Sandinenses, Caçadores Taipas, Brito, Lousada, Ribeirão, Oliveirense, Tirsense, Sobrado and Leixões (as an assistant), among others, up to 2020.
He passed away on 18 November 2023 in Creixomil, Portugal, at the age of 62.
