Fly Hellas
Fly Hellas (IATA: VQ, ICAO: VKH, Callsign: DELPHI) was a privately owned charter airline based in Athens, Greece. Founded in 2009 as Viking Hellas, it began operations in February 2010 with a single McDonnell Douglas MD-83 and served both scheduled and charter routes across Europe. The airline had planned to add Airbus A320-200s.
In October 2010, Viking Airlines, the parent company, ceased operations and attempted to resume in March 2011, but did not. In February 2011 Viking Hellas announced a rebranding to Fly Hellas to distance itself from the Viking Airlines group, with the name officially changed on 1 May 2011. The airline also announced it would close its Gatwick base and open a base at Manchester.
On 2 November 2011, Fly Hellas said it would suspend all flights for November, hoping to restart in December. On 5 December 2011 it was announced that the airline would not restart, entering administration. Four aircraft were subsequently returned to their lessors. At its height the company served 28 destinations from bases including Athens (headquarters) and Manchester. The CEO was Christian Tadjeran.
