Rita Bhaduri (4 November 1955 – 17 July 2018) was an Indian film and television actress who also worked in Gujarati cinema. Born in Indore, she trained at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, graduating in 1973 with Zarina Wahab among her peers. She started as a supporting actress in Hindi cinema during the 1970s–1990s. In 1975 she played Julie’s best friend in Julie, a role highlighted by the song Yeh Raatein Nayi Purani. Her landmark performance came in the Malayalam film Kanyakumari opposite Kamal Haasan. In 1976 she acted in the Gujarati film Lakho Phulani, which was a hit, and she became a leading actress in Gujarati cinema for several years. She is well known for the films Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979) and Raja (1995), the latter earning a Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actress. On television, her show Grihalakshmi Ka Jinn (1995–1997) was popular. Later, she played the grandmother in Nimki Mukhiya, which was her last role. She died in Mumbai at the age of 62 after kidney problems, at Sujay Hospital in Vile Parle.
