F.C. De Kampioenen is a Belgian Flemish sitcom about a small local football team. It aired on VRT from 1990 to 2020, spanning 21 seasons and 273 episodes, plus a special. The show is known for its funny misunderstandings, farce, and colorful characters.

The story follows the men of a neighborhood soccer club and their wives as they spend time at the club’s canteen before or after games. Much of the humor comes from the antics of a noisy neighbor and the many quick-witted tricks and schemes that go wrong. The tone is light, silly, and aimed at a broad audience.

The main cast includes several long-running characters led by Balthasar Boma, the club’s boss, with friends and family like Carmen, Doortje, Bieke, Pascale, Pol, Xavier, Oscar, and the cunning rival DDT. Over the years the show featured a rotating lineup of popular Belgian actors, including Marijn Devalck, Johny Voners, Danni Heylen, An Swartenbroekx, Loes Van den Heuvel, Ann Tuts, and others.

The series produced four feature films (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019) that followed the team on bigger adventures away from the TV studio. After the TV series ended, a 90-minute Christmas special was released on December 25, 2020, using archive footage of late cast member Johny Voners to honor him. Since 1997 the stories also appeared as a celebrity comic series, and Plopsaland De Panne opened a small FC De Kampioenen pub inspired by the show.

In 2015 the show celebrated its 25th anniversary with a big party and the return of many familiar faces. Plans for a 22nd season were discussed, but after Johny Voners’s death, the project was put on hold. The franchise continues to be popular in Belgium, including themed merchandise and the ongoing comic book series.
