Purulia Junction railway station

Purulia Junction is the main rail station serving Purulia city in West Bengal, India. It lies on Station Road on the eastern side of the city and is part of Indian Railways, under the South Eastern Railway zone (Adra division). The station code is PRR. It sits about 246 metres above sea level and has four platforms and six tracks. Parking and bicycle facilities are available.

Three-line junction and connections
Purulia Junction connects three lines: the Asansol–Tatanagar–Kharagpur line, the Purulia–Ranchi line, and the Purulia–Bokaro Steel City line. This gives the station direct links to Howrah/Kolkata via Asansol, to Ranchi, and to Bokaro/Tatanagar.

History in brief
The Bengal Nagpur Railway, formed in 1887, built lines to improve the Howrah–Mumbai route. The Nagpur–Asansol line opened for goods in 1891. The Purulia–Ranchi line started as narrow gauge in 1907, later upgraded to broad gauge, and electrification along key sections occurred in 1961–62.

Purulia Junction is a vital rail hub offering broad connections across eastern and southern India.
