Euclid's Nightmare
Euclid's Nightmare is a 1997 improvised music album by drummer Bobby Previte and composer John Zorn. It was released on the Depth of Field label and recorded on March 2, 1997 at Avatar Recording Studios in New York City. The 41-minute disc contains 27 untitled tracks, with several tracks built to be identical (tracks 7 and 18; 3 and 20; and 5, 14, and 27). All pieces are credited to Previte and Zorn. The music is avant-garde and energetic, featuring quick rim shots, rolling tom-toms, and scattered cymbal work that sometimes speeds up and stretches time. A reviewer on AllMusic, Thom Jurek, gave the album 3 stars, describing the dynamic interplay between Previte and Zorn and the chaotic yet jubilant free improvisation, with moments of lyricism when Previte’s tom-tom leads to a resonant legato from Zorn.
