Robert Nelson (economist)
Robert H. Nelson (1944–December 15, 2018) was an American economist. He was a professor of environmental policy at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy and a senior fellow at the Independent Institute. He wrote more than 100 journal articles, edited book chapters, and nine books. Nelson was widely regarded as an authority on public land management and zoning in the United States. He is best known for his work exploring the connections between economics, environmentalism, and Christianity. Some reviewers described his ideas as portraying economics as a kind of religion or priesthood. His book The New Holy Wars: Economic Religion versus Environmental Religion won a silver medal in the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the Finance, Investment, Economics category.
