Public Works Construction Act (French: Loi sur les travaux publics) was passed by the Parliament of Canada on July 3, 1934. It provided 40 million dollars to help the country during the Great Depression. The goal was to speed up economic recovery, create jobs, and reduce relief costs. The act funded public works across Canada, including projects in national parks and historic sites. For example, in Port Royal National Historic Site in Nova Scotia, a replica of the Port Royal Habitation was built. In Banff National Park, a new registration facility at the east gate and an administrative building were constructed. The act continued and expanded funding that had been available under the 1931 Unemployment and Farm Relief Act.
