Rupert D'Cruze

Rupert D'Cruze is a British conductor living in New Zealand. He began as a chorister with the Temple Church Choir in London, later playing in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra. He also played and taught the trombone before turning to conducting. In 1987 he won the Philharmonia Conducting Prize at the Royal Academy of Music, and he earned prizes at the Tokyo International Conducting Competition in 1991 and the Hungarian International Conducting Competition in 1992. He moved to New Zealand in 2006, becoming musical director of the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra in 2009, and in March 2010 he became the music director of the Dalewool Auckland Brass. He is a founder member of the Waikato Brass Quintet.
