Elena Romagnolo
Elena Romagnolo (born 5 October 1982 in Borgosesia, Italy) is an Italian runner who has competed mainly in the 3000 metres steeplechase and later in the 5000 metres. She holds the Italian record in the 3000m steeplechase with 9:27.48, set in the heats at the 2008 Olympics, and finished 11th in the final.
She won back-to-back national steeplechase titles in 2006 and 2007 and represented Italy at major championships, including the 2006 European Championships, the 2007 World Championships, and the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. She has 22 caps for Italy from 2006 to 2012.
Since 2009, Romagnolo has focused more on flat racing, especially the 5000 metres. She won a silver medal in the 5000m at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara with a personal best of 15:13.19, and finished sixth in the 5000m at the 2010 European Championships. In cross country, she competed at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, with a best finish of 24th in 2010. She also placed 10th at the 2008 European Cross Country Championships.
In the 2012 season she came close to victory at Cinque Mulini, finishing runner-up, and she reached the final of the women's 5000 metres at the London Olympics. Romagnolo has won seven individual Italian national championships and competed for the club C.S. Esercito, coached by Andrea Bello. She is 1.65 m tall and weighs 50 kg.
