John Trollope, 1st Baron Kesteven

John Trollope, 1st Baron Kesteven (5 May 1800 – 17 December 1874) was a British Conservative politician. He served as President of the Poor Law Board from March to December 1852 in the Earl of Derby’s government. The son of Sir John Trollope, 6th Baronet, and Anne Thorold, he had brothers General Sir Charles Trollope and Bishop Edward Trollope, and he was a relative of novelist Anthony Trollope. He was educated at Eton, joined the 10th Hussars and became a captain, and was High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1825. Trollope was MP for Lincolnshire South from 1841 to 1868. In 1868 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Kesteven, of Casewick in Lincolnshire. He married Julia Maria Sheffield in 1847, and they had six children. He died in 1874 at the age of 74 and was succeeded by his eldest son, John. Lady Kesteven died in 1876.
