Elections in Saint Pierre and Miquelon
Elections in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon choose the French president, a National Assembly deputy, a Senator, and the Territorial Council. Electors here vote in all French presidential elections, which occur at the same time as in mainland France.
National representation: The current National Assembly deputy is Annick Girardin, from the Left Radical Party; she was first elected in 2007.
Senate: Senators are elected by a small college of electors—the delegates of the General Council and the two Municipal Councils. The current Senator is Karine Claireaux, who until 2020 was the Mayor of Saint-Pierre.
Territorial level: The Territorial Council has 19 members, elected for six-year terms in single-seat constituencies.
Elections and party system: Saint-Pierre and Miquelon has a multi-party system. Elections are held in two rounds. In the first round, all candidates can run, and a true majority is needed to win most seats. If no majority is achieved, a second round is held the following Sunday. In the second round, a relative majority is enough to obtain 11 of the 19 seats. The remaining seats (save four for Miquelon) are distributed by proportional representation. Both municipalities have elected councils.
