Duron Carter
Duron Christopher Carter (born March 22, 1991) is an American former professional football player who starred as a wide receiver and later played as a defensive back in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He spent his CFL career with the Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Argonauts, BC Lions, and Edmonton Elks.
Carter grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter. He played college football at Ohio State and Coffeyville Community College, and also spent time at Alabama and Florida Atlantic, but academics and eligibility issues kept him from playing Division I football after his freshman year. He went undrafted in the 2013 NFL draft and had a tryout with the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Montreal Alouettes in 2013.
In the CFL, Carter quickly made an impact. He had 909 receiving yards in his first season (2013) and 1,030 yards in 2014. He played for the Alouettes again in 2016, then joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2017–2018) where he had a standout 2017 season with a career-high 1,043 receiving yards, including a 231-yard game and a long kickoff return for a two-point score. He also spent time at defensive back and helped the Riders reach the playoffs that year. Carter then played for the Toronto Argonauts in 2018, the BC Lions in 2019, and signed with the Edmonton Elks in 2022, appearing in ten games as a defensive back with 16 tackles and one interception before his release in December 2022.
Over his CFL career, Carter accumulated 343 receptions for 4,764 yards and 30 receiving touchdowns, along with 52 tackles and 3 interceptions on defense, totaling 36 touchdowns. He remained known for his versatility, athleticism, and big-play ability, while also facing off-field challenges and injuries that affected his trajectory.
