Dororo is a 2007 Japanese dark fantasy action film directed by Akihiko Shiota, based on Osamu Tezuka’s manga. Filmed in New Zealand, it presents Hyakkimaru and Dororo as older than in the manga. Dororo is a young woman who hides as a man after her father is killed by warlord Daigo; she becomes a thief and later adopts the name Dororo.

Abandoned at birth, Hyakkimaru’s body was sold to demons. A spellcaster replaced his missing parts with those of dead children, and he must fight demons to regain his body. He encounters several monsters and learns his curse comes from Daigo. After a deadly confrontation with his younger brother Tahōmaru, Hyakkimaru faces Daigo’s world of power and betrayal. Daigo kills his wife and makes a pact to sell his own body to a demon to gain power. Hyakkimaru defeats Daigo, regains his heart, and chooses to continue his quest with Dororo to kill more demons. In 2012, Ernesto Foronda announced a Western adaptation.
