It sits on a hillside overlooking the lagoon and has about 200 beds, six full-time doctors, and four wards: medical, surgical, paediatric, and maternity. In 2014, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) handed over a newly extended building that includes the General Out Patients area (GOPD), Emergency Department, Laboratory, Radiology, and a new theatre. In March 2015, after Tropical Cyclone Pam, Australian rescue teams removed about 100 kilograms of asbestos from the hospital.
