Derek Jenkins (painter)
Derek Jenkins (born c. 1937 in Cardiff, Wales) is a former teacher who became a painter known for Cornish landscapes and striped pebbles found on beaches around Cornwall. His best-known work, South from Cape Cornwall, was exhibited by the Tate. He studied art at the West of England College of Art in Bristol and earned a teaching diploma from London University. In 1972 he moved to Truro, Cornwall, and led the Art Department at Falmouth School of Art for 17 years. After retiring from teaching in 1989, he focused on painting, with exhibitions at Tate St Ives and in galleries in Falmouth and St Ives. He was a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and the Penwith Society of Artists. He stopped painting in 2005 at age 68.
