Mike Bell (politician)
Mike Bell (born March 16, 1963) is a Republican who served in the Tennessee Senate for the 9th district from 2011 to 2022. The district covers Riceville, Bradley County, McMinn County, Meigs County, and Polk County. Before the Senate, he spent two terms in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
He was born in Cleveland, Tennessee, and went to Bradley Central High School and Cleveland State Community College. He is married to Lisa Brumley Bell and they have five children. He is a Christian, a small business owner, and a farmer.
He was sworn in as state senator on January 11, 2011. He served as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was a member of the Education and Government Operations committees, among others.
During his time in the Senate, he voted on more than 100 bills, including:
- HB1264: yes, to allow a concealed handgun carry permit.
- HB0632: yes, to add professional development points for teachers who exceed goals.
- HB0164: no, to prohibit holding or using a cell phone while driving.
He was preceded in the Senate by Lou Patten and succeeded by Steve Southerland.
