Death and Nightingales
Death and Nightingales is a 1992 novel by Irish writer Eugene McCabe. Set in 1883 in County Fermanagh, Ireland, the story follows Beth Winters on her 23rd birthday as years of pain and betrayal lead to a devastating climax. The book has been praised by notable writers, with Michael Ondaatje calling it “a deeply moving, powerful, and unforgettable book,” and The Anglo-Celt calling it a “modern classic.” A three-part television adaptation with the same title aired in 2018, starring Jamie Dornan, Matthew Rhys, and Ann Skelly, produced by The Imaginarium, the studio of Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish.
