Jock McDonald
Jock McDonald, born John McDonald on 11 March 1893 in Cleland, Scotland, was a Scottish footballer who played as a right back. He played for several clubs, including Shotts United, Barnsley, Motherwell, Airdrieonians, Everton and New Brighton, with later stints at Connah’s Quay & Shotton and Colwyn Bay. He spent time on loan to Dykehead and Airdrieonians before joining Everton in 1920, where he captained the team in the 1921–22 season. McDonald made 224 Everton appearances without scoring, a club record that stood until Tony Hibbert broke it in 2011. He also played for the Scottish League XI twice in 1919. He finished his career in the early 1930s.
