NPAP, or 1-(2-naphthyl)-2-propylaminopentane (also called 2-naphthyl-α,N-dipropylphenethylamine), is a monoaminergic activity enhancer (MAE). It belongs to the α-propylphenethylamine and naphthylaminopropane families and is closely related to PPAP, but with a naphthalene ring instead of a phenyl ring. MAEs boost the release of monoamine neurotransmitters during nerve signals; NPAP increases dopamine and norepinephrine release but does not affect serotonin. Its potency is similar to PPAP, and the (−)-enantiomer is more active. Like PPAP, NPAP is not a classical monoamine releasing agent. It was developed by József Knoll and colleagues and was first described in 2001.
