David J. Buller (born September 12, 1959) is an American philosopher of science. He is Distinguished Research Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Philosophy at Northern Illinois University. He studied at Northwestern University, earning a PhD in 1989 with the thesis “Problems with Cognitivism: Confirmation, Action, and Realism” under advisor Arthur Fine. Buller is best known for his 2005 book Adapting Minds, which offers a detailed critique of evolutionary psychology. His research has been supported by a National Science Foundation grant (award #9985820). His main interest is criticizing evolutionary psychology.
