Darwin Laylo (born June 1, 1980) is a Filipino chess grandmaster. He won the Philippine national championship in 2004 and 2006, which helped him represent the country at the 2004 Calvià Olympiad and the 2006 Olympiad in Turin. Laylo earned three GM norms—two in 2006 (the Malaysian Open and the Bad Wiessee tournament) and one in 2007 (the Asian Chess Championship in Cebu)—and became a grandmaster in 2007. His peak rating was 2556 in January 2010. In 2007 he finished in the top ten at the Asian Chess Championship, earning a spot in the World Chess Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, where he was eliminated in the first round by Étienne Bacrot. In 2008 he tied for 3rd–7th at the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur, and in 2009 he won the Zonal tournament in Ho Chi Minh City.
