The Son of Ghoul is a horror host played by Keven Scarpino. He stars on The Son of Ghoul Show in Akron, Ohio, where a B movie is shown with comedy sketches.

Scarpino’s idea for the character came from Ghoulardi, a famous 1960s host created by Ernie Anderson. In 1982, at a Ghoulardi look-alike contest, Scarpino won first prize and was given the nickname “Son of Ghoul” by The Ghoul, Ron Sweed.

He started at WOAC in Canton, Ohio, where he met The Cool Ghoul and worked as a technician on Thriller Theater. After Cavender left in 1986, Scarpino auditioned to be the next host, got the job, and renamed the show The Son of Ghoul Show. When WOAC switched to home shopping in 1995, he moved the show to WAOH-LP, where it stayed until 2022.

Starting in March 2019, The Son of Ghoul Show also aired on WIVM TV-39 and WIVX TV-13, and WIVN TV-29 in Newcomerstown. WIVM is on Spectrum Cable in Stark County (989) and in Tuscarawas, Holmes, and Carroll counties (15). The show can be streamed via Livestream on the WIVM Live Stream, and airs Saturdays and Sundays from 8 PM to 10 PM Eastern Time.

In the late 1980s, Ron Sweed sued Scarpino for copying the character, but the case was dismissed because the similarities were too broad to protect. Scarpino’s long-time sidekick was Ron “Fidge” Huffman, who had dwarfism. Huffman died of alcohol poisoning in 2003 and was later replaced by “Jungle Bob.”
