Darkman III: Die Darkman Die is a 1996 Canadian-American superhero movie and the third film in the Darkman series. Directed by Bradford May, it stars Arnold Vosloo as Darkman, with Jeff Fahey, Darlanne Fluegel, and Roxann Dawson in supporting roles. The movie follows Darkman as he battles power-hungry entrepreneur Peter Rooker while forming an unusual bond with Rooker’s neglected wife and daughter.

In the story, Darkman (a man whose skin can be burned and rebuilt) is trying to perfect a permanent liquid-skin formula. He disrupts a criminal deal run by Rooker, who becomes obsessed with Darkman’s powers. A scientist named Dr. Bridget Thorne helps Darkman with his skin research and performs surgery to restore some of his senses. They create a small amount of permanent liquid skin, but Rooker reveals that Thorne is his mistress and that he wants to use Darkman for his own gains. Thorne and Rooker steal Darkman’s work and trap him, but Darkman escapes by removing a control device planted on his neck.

Darkman’s investigation leads him to Angela, Rooker’s neglected wife, and their daughter Jenny. Darkman grows close to them and even uses Darkman’s disguise to spend time as a loving father. Rooker makes a dangerous new strength formula from the data Darkman stole and tries to use it to kill a district attorney at a public event. Darkman stops the attack and learns that Angela’s family is in danger. He follows them to Thorne’s lab, where Rooker has brought them to hold hostage. In the final battle, Darkman fights Rooker, regains the last of his skin sample, and defeats him by pushing him into a shredding machine. A gas explosion saves Angela and Jenny, but Jenny is badly burned. Darkman decides to repair Jenny’s face with his liquid skin and continues his work to fight crime while staying away from a normal life.

Darkman III was made as a sister project to Darkman II: The Return of Durant. The films were shot in Toronto, with a combined production budget around seven million dollars. The movie was released on VHS on August 20, 1996, and on LaserDisc a week later. It arrived on DVD in 2004 and was released on Blu-ray in 2017. It also had a primetime TV showing on Fox in July 1999. The film received mixed to mixed-to-poor reviews, with critics noting its lower budget and some strong visuals. Jeff Fahey’s dual role as Darkman and Rooker was widely praised, while opinions on the story and production varied.

Over time, there have been conversations about new Darkman projects. Some involved plans for a fourth film, and in a 2022 interview, Sam Raimi suggested Universal was considering a legacy-style Darkman movie that could reboot parts of the story. Arnold Vosloo has mixed feelings about returning due to the demanding makeup, though he later appeared in The Mummy.
