Willie Mongin
Willie Anak Mongin is a Malaysian politician, software engineer, and entrepreneur. Born on 3 July 1977 in Kuching, Sarawak, he has been the Member of Parliament for Puncak Borneo since May 2018. He is a member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), which is part of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
Political career:
He first ran for Parliament in 2011 and 2013 but did not win. In 2018 he won the Puncak Borneo seat, defeating Genot Sinel with a majority of 4,005 votes. His majority increased to 13,338 in the 2022 election. Willie served as Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities II from March 2020 to August 2021, and again from August 2021 to November 2022, working under Prime Ministers Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob, with Deputy Minister Wee Jeck Seng.
Controversies:
In 2018, during a debate on the Sales and Services Tax, he asked if a viral photo suggesting a casino was real, prompting criticism from Bung Moktar Radin who demanded a retraction. In 2021, Batu Kawan MP Kasthuriraani Patto accused him of showing the middle finger twice during sessions; Willie denied the claim and said he would apologize if it were true.
