Uchumayo District
Uchumayo (also spelled Uchumayu) is one of 29 districts in Arequipa Province, in the Arequipa Region of Peru. The capital is the town of Uchumayo. The district covers 227.14 square kilometers and sits about 1,950 meters above sea level. In 2005, it had 10,255 residents, for a population density of around 45 people per square kilometer. The mayor is Antonio Hernan Alegre Manrique. The UBIGEO code is 040124. It lies at about 16°24′55″S latitude and 71°39′49″W longitude. The name comes from Quechua, with uchu meaning capiscum and mayu meaning river.
