Danny Limelight
Daniel Luis Rivera, better known as Danny Limelight, is an American professional wrestler. He works mainly on the independent circuit and is the ROW Platinum Champion in his first reign with Reality of Wrestling.
Early life and background
- Born September 2, 1991, in Brooklyn, New York.
- Served in the U.S. Marines from 2009 to 2019, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant and working as a drill instructor. He was administratively separated in 2019 for misconduct.
- Was inspired to become a wrestler after talking with Joe Gamble at a WWE live event in San Diego.
- Trained with SoCal Pro Wrestling and competed in shows in Southern California and Tijuana for Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and The Crash Lucha Libre.
- Teamed with Gino Rivera as Los Primos Rivera in 2016.
Wrestling career highlights
- 2019: Increased prominence with Championship Wrestling from Hollywood; faced Royce Isaacs for the UWN Television Championship and competed in a Fatal Four-Way at Coastline Clash. Also appeared at Impact Wrestling’s Unbreakable event.
- 2020–2021: Formed The Bodega with Papo Esco; they won the UWN Tag Team Championship. In 2021, Slice Boogie joined the group and they used the Freebird Rule to defend their titles until losing to the Midnight Heat.
- 2022: Won the UWN World Championship after beating Willie Mack, Tyler Bateman, and Jordan Clearwater. Championship Wrestling went on hiatus in 2023 due to industry strikes, during which he defended the world title against Clark Connors, Zicky Dice, Tom Lawlor, and Moose, and fought Eddie Kingston to a no contest.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling and AEW appearances
- Debuted with New Japan Pro-Wrestling on Lion’s Break Collision and became a regular on NJPW Strong. He reached the finals in the Lion’s Break Crown tournament, defeating Barrett Brown and Blake Christian before losing to Clark Connors. He later aligned with Team Filthy after attacking Rocky Romero and had ongoing feuds with Romero and others, including a match against Homicide at Detonation 2022.
- All Elite Wrestling: Debuted on AEW Dark on October 21, 2020, in a six-man tag match that ended in a loss. He appeared frequently on AEW Dark and AEW Elevation, with wins over Fuego Del Sol, Sean Maluta, and Baron Black. His only televised AEW Dynamite match came on January 6, 2021, teaming with the Varsity Blondes against Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers.
Major promotions in 5150 era
- Major League Wrestling: On July 10, 2021, he was introduced as a member of LAX, later known as 5150, alongside Slice Boogie. They defeated Myron Reed and Jordan Oliver for the MLW World Tag Team Championship on November 6, 2021. They later lost the MLW tag titles to E.J. Nduka and Calvin Tankman. Hernandez joined 5150, and the team challenged Hustle and Power and the Von Erichs, with Rivera taking the pin in a title defense.
- International Wrestling Association: In January 2022, Rivera and Slice Boogie defeated Nick Mercer and Leinord White to win the IWA World Tag Team Championship (in a match that involved the MLW tag titles). They defended the titles until February 26, 2022, when Lightning & Mr. Big won them.
Current status
- Danny Limelight continues to wrestle on the independent circuit, especially for Reality of Wrestling, where he is the ROW Platinum Champion.
