QuickC
QuickC is a discontinued Microsoft IDE for the C programming language. It first appeared in October 1987 for MS-DOS, with later Windows support arriving in September 1991. QuickC was aimed at power users and students and competed mainly with Borland’s Turbo C. It is part of Microsoft’s early trio of “Quick” languages, which also included QuickBasic and QuickPascal. QuickBasic later gave rise to Visual Basic, and QBasic replaced GW-BASIC in later MS-DOS releases. QuickC is an ancestor of Visual C++. The DOS version was a real-mode compiler, while QuickC for Windows 1.0 could also compile some protected-mode Windows programs. The QuickC line was eventually replaced by Visual C++ Standard Edition and is no longer sold.
