Danny Letner
Danny Letner (January 3, 1928 – March 30, 2018) was an American racecar driver from Downey, California. He won two NASCAR Cup Series races and later found success in off-road racing.
Career highlights:
- 1951: Drove cars owned by his father, Bert, in five Grand National Division races, earning two top-five finishes (best 8th).
- 1954: Won two races and finished second in the NASCAR Pacific Coast Late Model standings.
- 1955: Won three races in his only full-time season, earning the series championship.
- 1956: Competed in 23 NASCAR Convertible Division races, winning at Langhorne Speedway.
- 1957: Won three of the twelve races he entered in his final Grand National era season.
Off-road era and later life:
- Retired from stock car racing in the early 1960s and switched to off-road racing.
- Won the SCORE Parker 400 in 1989 at age 61 and finished tied for second in the year’s championship.
Honors and family:
- Inducted into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame in 2002 as part of the inaugural class.
- Born in Downey, California. His son Marty and grandsons Kory and Harley have also competed in off-road racing.
- Died on March 30, 2018, in Orange, California, at age 90.
