The Nature of Time is the second album by Twin Cities–based electronic group Future Perfect Sound System. Released on 25 September 2001 by Innova Recordings, the 65-minute album blends electronic music, ambient sounds, and indie rock. It was produced by Chris Strouth. The album is a loose concept about time, linked to a March 2000 Future Perfect performance at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art in Minneapolis, though the individual tracks were recorded separately in studios by different groups. Critics gave it mixed reviews: Sonoloco’s Ingvar Loco Nordin called it “illustrious and very original,” while Allmusic’s François Couture found it perplexing but noted its wide range.
