Dalcy de Oliveira Albuquerque
Dalcy de Oliveira Albuquerque (2 August 1918 – 3 October 1982) was a Brazilian entomologist who served as the director of Brazil’s National Museum (Museu Nacional). Born in Cuiabá, he died in Rio de Janeiro at age 64. He authored at least seven taxon names. In 1962, he joined the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi with fellow entomologists Isolda Rocha e Silva Albuquerque and Roger H. P. Arlé, and later became the museum’s director. During his six years as director, he did not publish scientific papers, but he worked daily in the laboratory and trained local researchers. He mentored Therezinha de Jesus Pimentel Chaves, who went on to become an entomology researcher. With two interns and technicians Apolinário Azevedo de Souza and Maria Fernanda Pinto Torres, he began a project to reassemble and recover the former Adolpho Ducke collection, which had many type specimens lost after being boxed up for decades. He was married to Isolda Rocha e Silva Albuquerque.
