Lekenik
Lekenik is a village and municipality in central Croatia, in the Turopolje lowland between the towns of Sisak and Velika Gorica. It is part of Sisak-Moslavina County. The municipality covers about 228 square kilometers, with a smaller urban area of around 30 square kilometers. The population was 5,343 in 2021, with 1,697 living in the urban part. The mayor is Ivica Perović (HDZ).
Lekenik is known for hosting two SOS Children’s Villages. In 1971, director Norman Jewison chose Lekenik to represent Anatevka in the film Fiddler on the Roof after considering sites in Austria, Canada, and Romania. The film credits thank the people of Lekenik, Mala Gorica, and Zagreb, Yugoslavia.
In the 2011 census, the municipality had 6,032 residents, with Croats making up about 97% of the population.
For weather records, the Vukojevac station has hot highs of 39.1 °C (on 6 August 2012) and cold lows of −26.4 °C (on 12 January 1985).
RTL Radio is the local radio station. Lekenik also hosts two SOS Children’s Villages.
