Family Groove Company
Family Groove Company (FGC) is an unsigned four‑member jam band from Chicago, Illinois. By June 2006 they had played in 28 states and logged more than 400 shows.
The band started in January 2001 when guitarist Adam Lewis and keyboardist Jordan Wilkow met bassist Janis Wallin and drummer Mattias Blanck while studying at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles. They quickly made a demo and began playing in Southern California, then toured the Western U.S. with regular gigs in San Diego, San Francisco, and Portland.
In spring 2002 they released their debut album Reachin’, a 10-track set. In fall 2002 they moved to Chicago to reach more audiences. Since then they have kept a busy touring schedule, headlining, opening for other acts, and playing major festivals like Summerfest, the 10,000 Lakes Festival, and Summer Camp in Chillicothe, Illinois.
After hundreds more shows and adding over 50 new songs, FGC released their second album The Charmer on April 25, 2006. It was recorded at Studio Chicago in December 2005 with overdubs in January–February 2006 and features fourteen tracks.
FGC blends groove influences from James Brown and Herbie Hancock with traditional song ideas inspired by the Beatles. They focus on well‑crafted songs and thoughtful improvisation, not just long guitar solos.
