Clarence Emerson
Clarence Vernon Emerson (January 24, 1901 – September 25, 1963) was a businessman and politician from Saint John, New Brunswick. He served as a Progressive Conservative senator for Saint John–Albert from 1957 until his death in 1963.
Born in Saint John to William E. Emerson and Augusta L. Edelston, he worked in his family's hardware and plumbing businesses and led a real estate company. He was president of Emerson Brothers Ltd., vice-president of W.E. Emerson & Sons, and a director of Canada Cement. In 1936 he married Frances Aileen Job. Appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker on October 12, 1957, Emerson chaired the Senate Finance Committee and helped produce a report on fighting inflation. In 1960 he helped push legislation to guarantee bank loans to small businesses for capital improvements. He died in Saint John at age 62, while still in office.
