Zhangfang, Beijing
Zhangfang Town is a suburban town in Beijing’s Fangshan District, about 80 kilometers southwest of central Beijing. It covers 119.3 square kilometers and had about 18,299 residents in 2020. By 2021, the town was divided into 15 villages. The Juma River runs through the area, and nearby mountains include Dawajian, Baihujiao, Zhuanghushan, and Ma’anshan.
The local economy relies mainly on farming and tourism, with persimmons playing an important role.
Historically, the name Zhangfang came from an old term meaning “Tent House” (账房).
Key sights include Yunju Temple, a Buddhist temple that originally dates back to the Northern Qi dynasty (550–570), and archaeological and scenic spots such as the Zhangfang Shang and Zhou Dynasties Site, Xianxi Cave, and Jiulong Pond. The Beijing–Tongliao railway passes through Zhangfang.
Education in the town consists of four public primary schools and one middle school.
