Chester-Blandford State Forest
Chester-Blandford State Forest is a public forest in Chester and Blandford, Massachusetts. It covers about 2,776 acres and sits at roughly 702 feet in elevation. The forest was established in 1924 when local lumber companies sold the land to the state and is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Inside the forest you’ll find remnants of small mining sites and the Sanderson Brook Falls, a 60-foot cascade. From 1934 to 1940 the Civilian Conservation Corps helped develop the area, building a campground, pavilions, trails, ski runs, and the road and bridges to the falls. Today the forest offers trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Other activities include picnicking, fishing, restricted hunting, and snowmobiling.
