Chemin de fer de la Rivière Romaine
Chemin de fer de la Rivière Romaine (CFRR)
The Romaine River Railway is a 43-kilometer railway in eastern Quebec. It runs from the port of Havre-Saint-Pierre on the Saint Lawrence River inland to a large ilmenite deposit at Lac Allard. Ore is loaded at Havre-Saint-Pierre onto bulk carriers and shipped upriver to Sorel-Tracy. The line is connected by a train ferry operated by COGEMA.
QIT-Fer et Titane, a unit of Rio Tinto Group, owns and operates the railway. The mine isn’t accessible by road, so the railway also carries workers by train. The line began service in 1949 and uses standard gauge track (1,435 mm).
