Charles Darwin Research Station
Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS), known in Spanish as Estación Científica Charles Darwin, is a science center in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island, Galápagos, Ecuador. It is run by the Charles Darwin Foundation, a charity started in 1959 with support from UNESCO and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The station is the foundation’s headquarters and carries out scientific research and environmental education to help protect the Galápagos.
The station is on the shore of Academy Bay and has satellite offices on Isabela and San Cristóbal islands. More than 100 scientists, educators, volunteers, students, and staff from around the world work there. Researchers conduct projects to conserve the Galápagos ecosystems, often in partnership with the Galápagos National Park Directorate, the main government body for conservation. CDRS also runs a natural history interpretive center for visitors and supports educational programs for conservation.
