Central Lüß Plateau Heathland
The Central Lüß Plateau Heathland is a nature reserve in the Südheide Nature Park, covering about 293 hectares. It has protected status since 1995 and consists of three separate parts: Misselhorn Heath, Schillohsberg Heath, and Weesener Weg Heathland.
The larger protected area around it, called Heathland and Rough Pasture in the Südheide, covers about 278 hectares and is a Special Area of Conservation (No. 277). The conservation work is led by the district of Celle.
Misselhorn Heath is about 209 hectares and starts 2 km east of Hermannsburg. It is mainly heathland, mostly covered by common heather. In wetter spots you can also find cross-leaved heath. Some boggy areas have rare carnivorous plants like bladderworts and the spoonleaf sundew. Other notable plants include the protected common lousewort and the rare marsh gentian, with cotton grass occurring occasionally.
Schillohsberg Heath covers about 73 hectares and lies east of Lutterloh. It is a true heathland.
Weesener Weg Heathland covers about 11 hectares and lies just north of Lutterloh.
