Ron Shaver
Ronald "Ron" Shaver, born June 16, 1951 in Galt, Ontario, is a Canadian former figure skater. He competed for the Hamilton Skate Club (Hamilton-Stoney Creek) and is a two-time Skate Canada International champion and the 1977 Canadian national champion. He won the novice title at the 1966 Canadian Championships, the first year the novice level was held.
After earning the senior silver at the 1973 Canadian Nationals, Shaver competed at his first World Championships in Bratislava, finishing 8th overall (12th in figures, 6th in the short program, 4th in the free skate). His best World result came in 1974 in Munich, where he finished 5th overall (7th in figures, 2nd in the short, 3rd in the free). He suffered a groin muscle injury in the 1974–75 season and placed 8th at the 1975 World Championships in Colorado Springs.
Shaver represented Canada at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, but he withdrew after the short program (6th in figures and 3rd in the short). In 1977 he became the Canadian national champion. In his final amateur competition, he finished 6th at the 1977 World Championships in Tokyo.
