Cell (Japanese band)
Cell (セル) was a Japanese visual kei rock band from Tokyo, active from 2012 to 2015. Their music blended alternative rock, metal, and hard rock. The group formed in 2012 with KON on vocals, SIN and NAO on guitars, and YUKI on bass.
They kept a busy live schedule, including several solo shows at Ikebukuro EDGE. Cell released three maxi singles and one DVD single, and contributed a cover of “Hurry Go Round” to a Hide tribute album.
From 2013, they expanded overseas, appearing as a special guest at AX2013 in Los Angeles and playing their first U.S. show. In 2014, KON appeared as a guest at the LA VK Fest and hosted a livestream Q&A for American fans.
On November 28, 2014, at Nagoya Holiday Next, Cell announced they would go on hiatus after their upcoming one-man concert “Hoshi ni Negai wo…” at Ikebukuro EDGE on January 18, 2015. Their lyrics often explored life, love, anger, irritation, and strength.
After releasing their first single CD “Jikogenkyu Paradox,” they toured Japan with the band LIN in the “Infinite ~CELL vs. LIN~” series. The final show before the hiatus was January 18, 2015, at Ikebukuro EDGE, ending with the phrase “Hoshi ni Negai wo…” They then entered an indefinite hiatus.
