Celebrity Solstice
Celebrity Solstice is the lead ship of Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class. It was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, at a cost of about $750 million. The keel was laid in March 2007, it was launched in August 2008, and completed in October 2008. The ship entered service on November 23, 2008, after being christened by ocean scientist Sharon L. Smith in Fort Lauderdale.
The vessel is registered in Nassau, Bahamas, and since 2008–present has also been associated with Valletta, Malta. At the time of its launch, it was the largest post-Panamax ship in Celebrity’s fleet.
Celebrity Solstice is famous for innovative features such as a real grass lawn on deck, a glassblowing studio, and a 12-deck-high Grand Foyer. Exterior design was by Martin Francis, with interior spaces created by several designers including Tihany Design and BG Studio. The ship measures about 121,878 gross tons, is roughly 1,033 feet long, and can carry about 2,852 guests with a crew of around 1,250. It can travel up to 24 knots.
It remains in service today. A dry dock was planned for October 2021.
